I am not a very religious guy..even though I do pray a lot. My church attendance is irregular at best. My faith is a very simplistic belief that Jesus Christ did in fact live historically, and was tortured and killed by the political leaders of His time.
Yet during Jesus's brief life and 3 yr ministry, He not only demonstrated miraculous healings, forgiveness, and teachings.. I believe He really did rise from His grave, bringing us all the hope and promise of an eternal existence, through a new relationship with God through Him.
In my own confused, dysfunctional life, I early on begged "God" to help me, to reveal Himself to me.
And I believe God did...mainly on hiking trails in the southwest USA; I chased after God and came to believe in His Son, Jesus the Messiah.
Illogical I know, but experientially transforming for me.
Between the 'Sermon On The Mount', in the Gospel of Mathew (chapters 5-7), and the amazing reassurances in the Gospel of John (chapters 15-17), I believe Jesus Christ presented a revolutionary vision of our Heavenly Father and Creator that every hurting human being can grab onto, and count on, forever!
